Kevin Uhalde is Associate Professor of 历史, Honors Tutorial College Director of Studies, 历史 Pre-法律 Advisor, and Director of the Center for 法律, Justice & 文化. He has also served as Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of 历史, two terms on the 教师 Senate, and as President of Ohio University’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).

Publications

Kevin Uhalde has published or delivered scholarly papers on topics in the history of early Christianity, the later Roman Empire, and early medieval Europe. 他的书中, Expectations of Justice in the Age of Augustine (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2007), reflects his ongoing interest in how officials and intellectuals, including religious leaders, cope with human failure. With Kristina Sessa, he published Scale and the Study of Late Antiquity (Edipuglia, 2023), dedicated to the use of scalar concepts as both object and method of historical inquiry. Among other awards, he has received the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome and two fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies. Other publications include "Tertullian, the First Penitents, and the Process of Repentance in Late Antiquity," in La Vie d’Adam et Éve et les traditions adamiques (Lausanne, 2017), “The Life of Penance,” in The Oxford Handbook of the Merovingian World (牛津, 2020), and “The Shape of Early Christian Fidelity: Swearing and Repenting in the Face of Uncertainty,” in Making Sense of the Oath in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages (Turnhout, forthcoming).

教学

Kevin Uhalde teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on Europe and the Mediterranean region during Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. He directs theses and conducts honors tutorials and independent studies in the same fields and has received the Distinguished Mentor Award from the Honors Tutorial College. In 2024, he received the Graselli Brown Outstanding Teacher Award from the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as the University Professor Award from Ohio University. His regular courses include:
